How to make learning languages fun

Do you know what a “Language Reactor” is? It is a Google Chrome plugin rather than an app or website that will improve your life and make learning languages more enjoyable and effective. What, however, is an extension?

A browser extension is a software that enhances and personalizes the user experience. It will only function on your Chrome browser because we are talking about a Google Chrome extension. If you don’t already have Chrome, I suggest quickly getting it online (just Google, Download Chrome)

NOTE: Firefox and Edge will soon support Language Reactor.

What is a Language Reactor?

While watching your favorite movies or television shows, you may expand your vocabulary and decode words using the Language Reactor plugin for Netflix, YouTube, and Turtle TV. Real-time translation is used for everything. If you’re learning one, two, or more languages, you’ll adore using them!

Remember that it is an independent extension created by passionate language learners for language learners everywhere in the globe, assisting us in learning new and fascinating study techniques. It is not an official Netflix or YouTube channel extension.

Did You Know That? – Nearly 30 languages are available on Language Reactor! The list of their Netflix and YouTube channels includes all of their languages.

Where to download Language Reactor

Look up “Language Reactor” on Google or click directly on the download page. By just clicking “Add to Chrome,” the download ought to begin right away. You won’t need to do anything throughout the installation process, which will take a few seconds.

You will be sent to the official website after the installation is complete, where you can find detailed instructions on how to use it. To find out if you ought to buy it, continue reading.

If you wish to watch a Spanish YouTube video on your favorite channel and your first language is English, you will see subtitles in both Spanish and English, with Spanish being the target language on top.

How to put the double subtitles on YouTube

You can decide when to watch your show with double subtitles and when to watch it without them; the function does not need to be on all the time. To view the full list of subtitles for the video, choose the three lines icon in the top right corner of your screen.

The video player should be set to “Subtitles/closed captions (c)” so that LR understands which language to translate. Once you’ve done all of this, your screen should resemble the one below (it just takes three clicks). This method of displaying the subtitles allows you to highlight words and read their translations.

Additionally, you may browse different dictionaries, view examples of how to use them, and hear the pronunciation. Selecting the play button allows you to listen to the subtitles as often as possible. By selecting the complete sentence, you can go back to the moment when each subtitle was spoken to hear the speaker say it.

Study tips

I advise trying the following if you’re unsure how to use the extension for language learning the best.

Beginning with each phrase:

  • Use the ‘s’ keyboard key to stop reading the text and listen to the audio numerous times. Please pay close attention to the sounds and try to decipher their meaning.
  • Replay the audio while reading the text in the original language. Hopefully, by this time, you’ve understood some of the significance.
  • To understand the exact meaning, consult the translation. Replay the sounds.
If there is vocabulary you don’t understand, look it up in the pop-up dictionary, but don’t obsess over every word’s definition.
  • Play the audio a few times more. Now that you have heard it, the term and its meaning should sound rather familiar.
  • Take the subsequent sub (‘d’ key).

As a proficient learner, for each subtitle:

  • Using the keyboard’s ‘s’ key, listen to the audio without reading the text. I hope you comprehend at least half of what I’ve said.
  • Replay the audio while reading the text in the default language. Ideally, you have mostly understood by this point.
  • To understand the entire meaning, consult the translation. Any remaining words you don’t know, look up in the dictionary that pops up.
  • Play the audio once more.
  • Continue with the next sub (‘d’ key).

In the upper levels:

  • Using the keyboard’s ‘s’ key, listen to the audio without reading the text. Ideally, 80% or more of what they say makes sense.
  • Use the pop-up dictionary or the translation if necessary to look up any remaining unfamiliar words.
    Play the audio once more.
  • Continue with the following sub ( ‘d’ key).

Don’t dwell on complex or unfamiliar grammar rules for an extended period. Move through the subs again. Being exposed to the new structure and associating some meaning with it is already quite beneficial. If you need to comprehend something, you’ll see it again and learn more about how it functions soon enough.

Language Reactor review: Should you download it?

This is an AMAZING alternate strategy to maintain practicing if you become easily bored with school books and apps and spend too much time learning like me! Let’s see the advantages and disadvantages of adding the Chrome extension.

Pros:

  • Free download
  • Easy setup and navigation
  • Instant and accurate word translation
  • Word usage examples
  • Access to a dictionary

Cons:

  • Need YouTube subtitles to work
  • Only available on Chrome (at the moment)
  • Only available on desktop

I’d advise you to give it a try, look around, and see whether it aligns with your study habits or is something you could include in your routine. Furthermore, it’s free! Simply uninstall it if you don’t like it.
